The esteemed Kenny Loggins played the Fallsview Casino for the final time Friday evening. This show marked his first and final appearance at the new OLG Stage as he had played at The Avalon Theatre on his last visit in 2018. In the announcing of the tour earlier this year he felt the time was right. At 75 years old, Loggins put on an impressive show that focused mainly on his hits but still found time to slip in a few deep cuts.

The show began auspiciously with the top-40 hit “Keep The Fire”. From there Loggins announced he would play a pair of cuts he wrote with Michael McDonald. “Heart To Heart” followed by the tour’s namesake “This Is It”. It was good to see the latter song resemble the original as last time Loggins changed the arrangement making it almost unrecognizable.

It was one of those shows where every song was a highlight in itself but the ones that stood out were of course the big hits such as “Footloose” and “Danger Zone”. Those were the songs everyone came to hear and Loggins did not disappoint. While there were a few well-known songs absent from the set (notably “Don’t Fight It” and “Your Mama Don’t Dance”) it did not have an effect on the overall show.

Loggins brought with him a very capable band that included guitarist Scott Bernard, drummer David Salinas, keyboardist Rob Arthur, guitarist Rick Cowling and bassist Wade Biery. These guys put on a solid performance that brought the show to a high level and the combination of their playing and Loggins voice made the songs standout more than one could imagine.

It is always good to see an artist go out on their own terms while still performing at an elite level. That is exactly what Loggins is doing. Going out not only while in top playing form but doing so while still putting on a show that is drawing rave reviews everywhere it goes. While this may be it for Loggins as far as touring goes, he left us an amazing amount of classic songs that will be etched into time forever.
