Everclear made their third stop into town over the past four years last night at Electric City. Before that they went almost ten years between visits. It was good seeing band leader Art Alexakis up on the stage rocking as only he can. The show marked the beginning of the band’s spring tour which will run through til May.

Opening night of a tour is very special not only for the fans but also the artist. The band had played a handful of shows since the calendar flipped. This show was the band’s first in a little over a month. Alexakis knew exactly how to kick things off as “So Much For The Afterglow”, the title cut from the band’s biggest selling album of the same name helped to set the tone. Following up with “Everything to Everyone” it left no doubt that these guys were here to rock and that they did.

These days Everclear features Alexakis on vocals and guitar, guitarist Davey French, bassist Freddy Herrera and drummer Brian Nolan. This lineup has been delivering the catalog to the masses since 2018 when Nolan joined. These guys sounded amazing considering they have been off the road for a bit.

Getting back to the set itself, the band drew mainly from the two big albums, So Much For the Afterglow and Sparkle and Fade. They played a pair of cuts from Songs From An American Movie Vol. One including the band highest charting single “Wonderful” which peaked at #11 on the Billboard #100.

When it comes to giving the people what they want Alexakis obliged by playing “Volvo Driving Soccer Mom” for a fan who had a sign held up pleading for the song to be played. The band ended the show with their signature song “Santa Monica” which drew the loudest ovation of the evening.

It seemed when the band played the more spacious Town Ballroom in 2023, the fans were more vocal and seemed much more into the show where the Ballroom has different levels so you can get a good view of the stage from most vantage points. If you were stuck on the upper level last night the view of the stage was obstructed unless you were lucky enough otherwise get one of the closer spots. On the positive side the sound for the show Tuesday night was really good. The bottom line Everclear put on a solid performance and drew pretty decent for a mid week show in Buffalo in March. A fine way to kick off their tour.
