Steel Panther are currently on tour promoting their latest release Lower the Bar, which included a stop at the Rapids Theatre in Niagara Falls, NY. This is the comedic-rock band’s fourth release, and quite possibly best so far. Anyone that has heard of Steel Panther knows (and looks forward to) what they are in store for when attending a live show.

The band has made a name for themselves for being overtly gimmicky. The fans love them for their crude humor as much as they do for the actual talent all 4 members possess. Singer, Michael Starr, was ribbed all night about being one of the top 25 all-time best metal singers. Which as the night rolled on turned into of the one of the top 25 in the venue, by guitarist, Satchel. Of course, the back and forth did not end there. Similar to shows in the past, they brought a girl of Asian resemblance on stage, to serenade. After their performance of “Asian Hooker “, they tried to coax her into misbehaving however she did not speak English and could not play along.

I think a low point in the show was Satchel’s extended guitar solo even though he was using Stix Zadinia’s drum set at the same time. It would have made more sense to throw in an extra song or two off the new album.

Later when they picked yet another pretty face to join them on stage for “Girl from Oklahoma” the joke was on them this time. This female fan was a mere 16yrs old, there with her parents. She knew every word and actually sang really well. The band took turns making up little dirty ditties about her, much to her and the audience’s amusement. Bassist, Lexxi Foxx, bearing the brunt of the joke from the other members. (His verse revolved around himself, of course)

The place really lit up when all the ladies in the venue were invited up on stage. The band played “17 Girls in a Row” and “Glory Hole” in hopes that at least some of the women would let loose and show the crowd their goods. The plan worked on a few scantily clad ladies that night.

Overall, it was a good show, especially considering it was a Wednesday night. I would be honestly surprised to hear it wasn’t sold out, because it was definitely a tightly packed place that night. Steel Panther is a must-see band for anyone looking to have a no holds barred fun evening out.
