Black Label Society returned to town Wednesday night for the first time in some eight years. In tow were Zakk Sabbath and Dark Chapel. Zakk Sabbath of course is guitarist Zakk Wylde’s Black Sabbath tribute band who actually played this same venue, Buffalo RiverWorks back in January 2025.

It seemed so long ago that Black Label Society was in town at the Town Ballroom back in 2018. They made up for lost time and played a blistering set that featured the guitar duo of Dario Lorina and Wylde himself. Joining them were bassist John DeServio and drummer Jeff Fabb.

With this being just the second night of the new tour entitled American Crusade, the fans did not know exactly what to expect when it came to the set list. Wylde delved up selections from six different studio releases including a pair from the band’s latest album Engines of Demolition.

During the BLS set Wylde paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne twice with an all out cathartic cover of “No More Tears” a song Wylde recorded and wrote with Osbourne back in 1991. He then ended the night with “Ozzy’s Song” which just came out on the new album. The crowd was pumping fists in the air yelling Ozzy at various points of the night with Wylde leading the charge.

Having these three bands on the bill made the night special from the aspect that the members of BLS all played two sets each as Wylde, DeServio and Fabb also comprised the Zakk Sabbath lineup and Lorina lead his band Dark Chapel in the lead off spot. An epic thing that not too many bands can pull off.

Zakk Sabbath dug deep into the Sabbath underworld delivering an extremely satisfying set of Sabbath covers. “Fairies Wear Boots”, “N.I.B.” and the set closer “War Pigs” set the crowd into a frenzy as Wylde did what seemed like an extra long Ozzy chant as the crowd obliged and shouted in unison.

Dark Chapel featured Dario Lorina not only on guitar but also on lead vocals as well. Hard to believe this guy was wet behind the ears some 18 years ago when I first saw him perform as the guitarist for Jani Lane, the late Warrant singer in his solo band. Lorina has come a long way from those days and his band left an indelible mark on the evening as a solid exciting band who had the place rocking from the start.

This is a can’t miss tour for all of the reasons and examples I mentioned. Fans of Black Label Society, Zakk Sabbath and Dark Chapel will surely enjoy what is a solid night of muscular music. For fans of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath this was just the icing on the cake.
