Concert Synopsis
Peter Wolf
The Fillmore
Detroit, Michigan
Friday April 17, 2026
Peter Wolf and the J. Geils Band have had a long lasting relationship with the city of Detroit. Oddly enough the Geils band hailed from Boston, Mass. Name a venue from Detroit’s storied history and odds are the band played there. That includes such landmark venues as Pine Knob Music Theatre (DTE Energy Music Theatre), The Palace of Auburn Hills, Cobo Arena, The Grande Ballroom and the Cinderella Concert Hall. Heck they even played Ford Field and the Silverdome. The band also played its final show ever as the J.Geils Band on September 11, 2015. That Cinderella venue was where the band’s landmark live album Full House was recorded.
Wolf and his band the Midnight Travelers put on a show that left the crowd only begging for more. Mixing in standard covers alongside some Geils classics as well as some of his own solo material including some new songs was the key to keeping the show fresh. It had been some nine years that Wolf was last in town. Wolf’s speech “I hear people say Detroit’s coming back. Well f*ck them Detroit never left!” Which drew the loudest response of the night save maybe the final bows.
Wolf just recently turned 80 although you never would have known seeing him move all over the stage pretty much non-stop all night. He played for over 2 hours which was an amazing feat itself.
Final Analysis:
Best song of night: Night Time. Amazing he threw that in the second encore totally unexpectedly.
Those who never have had the honor of seeing this legendary frontman should make it a point very soon.
