If you like your metal loud, blistering but yet with precision, then the Buffalo Riverworks was the place to be Tuesday night. Trivium returned to town and brought the fabulous Jinjer and Heriot who were making their Buffalo debut. Trivium’s latest tour Ascend Above the Ashes is in support of their latest EP Struck Dead which dropped on Halloween. The band’s 14-song set was powerful and explosive as one may have surmised.

Trivium delivered another solid roaring performance that had the crowd’s attention from the first note of “In Waves”. With most Trivium shows there was a swirling pit and plenty of crowd surfing for those who enjoy that kind of thing. The sound was dialed in to perfection as vocalist Matt Heafy’s screams can be heard without distortion.

The band played two cuts from Struck Dead including the title cut and “Bury Me With My Screams”. Both tracks sounded like vintage Trivium. They also played four songs off Ascendancy which was their second release that put them on the map. It was also good to see Silence in the Snow represented in the set. To me “Until the World Goes Cold” was the highlight of the night.

The band’s core has remained in tact with Heafy on guitar and vocals, bassist Paulo Gregoletto and guitarist Corey Beaulieu. Joining them on drums was Alex Rüdinger who took over for this tour and will be working with the band on their upcoming album. The band had multiple microphones across the stage making it easier for the band members to move around freely and not be stuck in one spot. These road warriors know what it takes so they can give their fans the best possible show.

It will be interesting to see what the new album will be like. The band has always put out material that has resonated well with their fanbase. Judging by the results of the short EP the crowd really dug those new tracks, I expect we are in treat for another solid gem for the catalog.

Jinjer made their first return to town since 2023 when they headlined the now defunct Rapids Theatre in nearby Niagara Falls. A lot has happened in the Ukraine (the band’s home country) since that show. The band recently released their fifth studio album Duél in February.

Hitting the stage with the title track to Duél set the tone. The band played it smart by pumping the new album to the boisterous crowd. Six songs out of nine came from Duél leaving just three older songs including closer “Pisces”.

While the band has had to deal with a lot over the last few years they continue to strive forward and may be at their creative peak right now. The band is currently comprised of the same lineup since 2016. Currently including drummer Vladislav “Vladi” Ulasevich, bassist Eugene Abdukhanov, guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov and vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk, this group seems to be hitting on all cylinders.

These are the type of concerts many fans like where you have two great bands and a newer or up and coming band to complete the package. These three bands delivered a night to remember and more.
