With temperatures once again surpassing 90° it was another blistering day in Lewiston. Things only appeared to get hotter once Fitz and the Tantrums took the stage at 8:30 PM. It first appeared it would be a very light crowd but by the time the band took the stage the venue filled in nicely. Looking at the Artpark schedule when this one was announced I was quite surprised to find the last time I saw the band was 2016.
It was refreshing to see the band after all these years. They had released three albums since I last saw them and it was interesting how their set comprised of just a mere five songs from their first three albums combined. The band has grown and their audience has grown with them as well. This band though stays true to the style and sound as what it was when they first started.
They started off with “OCD” from the 2019 album All The Feels before taking the lid off their latest album which came out last month Man on the Moon. The band played a healthy dose off their latest six songs in all. The songs fit right into the set snugly in between classic gems like “HandClap” and “The Walker”.
Vocalist Michael Fitzpatrick said he sat down before the show today and realized the band has now been touring for seventeen years. He also recalled playing the area and referenced a pair of shows the band played at Canalside in downtown Buffalo over the years. He then dedicated “MoneyGrabber” to all the fans who have been there since the start.
The band has virtually remained unchanged with exception of touring drummer Blair Sinta who joined in 2022. Joining Fitzpatrick on this humid night of course was Noelle Scaggs who is a vital member sharing the vocal chores and percussion. The blend of her voice and Fitzpatrick’s helps give the band their distinguished sound. Rounding out the band were bassist Joseph Karnes, keyboardist Jeremy Ruzumna and James King. King plays so many instruments it would be too long a read. King mainly plays Sax. A cool moment occurred before the show as King came out and introduced his son
Fitz and the Tantrums know where they came from. They stated so a few times during the show at how much they appreciate the fans as they know without them they would not be where they are today. Some bands take that for granted. Even with the sweltering temps the band gave it their all up on that stage as it seemed as though Scaggs and Fitzpatrick never stopped moving. For Fitz and the Tantrums it really has been more than just a dream.
