Chip Z’nuff brought his band through WNY again this past Wednesday. The Caz was the place to be on this hot and sticky summer night. The only problem was many were unaware of this show. If a band ever had an opportunity to “mail in” a performance this had all the makings of it. Despite the low attendance, none of the bands let it deter them from putting on fantastic sets. The crowd was very appreciative of the effort put forth making it a very intimate and unforgettable experience for those who attended.

Z’nuff mentioned how he was a little under the weather. He seemed his usual self telling some stories and his usual in between song banter. The set was focused a little too heavy for my taste on the debut album as Z’nuff mentioned they added “Little Indian Girl” recently which was rarely played after the first tour. Considering all the great tunes in this catalog of 18 albums, it would have been nice to see some variety and perhaps a cover or too less.

The band does have a new album coming out on July 25 entitled ‘Xtra Cherries. “Heavy Metal”, the first single from it was played and went over well. Other highlights from the bands set included the classic “Baby Loves You”, and a blistering version of Paul McCartney’s “Jet”.

Joining Z’nuff were guitarists Jason Camino and newcomer Luis Kalil, along with new drummer stolen from the Mike Tramp Band, Brentt Arcement. The band sounded in very good form delivering the classic Enuff Z’nuff standards with flair.

Enuff Z’nuff as stated by many people in the know, have always been considered underachievers. It doesn’t matter who is singing whether it be Chip, (Johnny) Monaco or Donnie (Vie). The band always seems to put on great shows based on the strength of their catalog. The Vie/Z’nuff songwriting team when at it’s peak put out some of the greatest songs that unfortunately many did not hear. Catch them on tour while you can to get a taste of what they are all about.

Permacrush opened the show with a two man acoustic set. They were supposed to be the main support but due to a few circumstances beyond their control they performed as a duo. Led by vocalist Chris Crush who was recovering from not being able to sing a few days prior, he and guitarist Brett Baugh went through a quick 5 song set that gave everyone a small taste of what Permacrush was all about.

The other band on the bill was from Boston called BAND Inc. Led by bassist/vocalist Giuliana Lucia Amaral who was on the Voice Season 24. She drove the band through some powerful material with her strong voice at the forefront. Definitely a band to put on your radar as I expect we will hear much more from them in the near future.

Digital pre-orders of XTRA CHERRIES are available HERE, while CD and vinyl copies can be pre-ordered HERE.
