It had been quite sometime since Colbie Caillat played Canada so it was a special treat to see her play at Fallsview Casino Resort last night. It’s always a delight to see an artist who not only has a lovely voice but also a soothing manner to her personality. There were no special props or gadgets to enhance the show. Just a solid backing band with Caillat delivering meaningful, quality lyrics and songs that have resonated well with the audience she attracts.
Caillat is currently doing some tour dates to promote her latest album Along The Way. Along The Way, released in 2023 features her digging into a more country tinged sound in contrast to the pop-contemporary sound her fans are accustomed to. Her songwriting may have become more personal but also listening to the new songs and lyrics show how she has progressed as a songwriter.
Opening the show with the familiar “Fallin’ For You” helped to establish the connection between the crowd and Caillat. She delivered all the songs many would expect her to play as well as sprinkled in highlights anew along the way. Guitarist Jonathan Wyndham shone brightly alongside Caillat with his solid guitar playing and accompanied background vocals.
Caillat does not believe in leaving the stage and coming back for an encore so following “Bubbly” she invited the crowd to sing along to what is perhaps her best song the sprightly “Brighter Than The Sun”. A fantastic way to close out her 90 minute set. Caillat has seemed to have eased off on touring somewhat the past few years making each show more special given that fact. Hopefully she will add many more dates so fans can see her where she belongs, up on stage captivating audiences with her music.
