KC and the Sunshine band returned to Fallsview Sunday night in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. The show marked the band’s first opportunity to play OLG Stage after having played the Avalon Theatre on multiple occasions over recent years. It was also the band’s first show in town since 2019 and the pandemic.
Harry Casey is of course the man who founded the band, wrote the hits and is the main vocalist. The way he was moving on stage you would never guess he is 72 years old. He is considered a main pioneer that helped form the disco era in music. He has had five number one hits all of which were played tonight.
As Casey mentioned during the show they do not use tapes or backing music. Why would they with the full ensemble of folks on the stage which also included four backup vocalists. It was a joy to hear an artist say that and truly mean it. There are just too many artists out there these days performing with some type of gadgetry.
Props to Casey, who at this point in his career could simply be relaxing at home enjoying life and taking it easy. He has a strong work ethic and still enjoys performing or he wouldn’t be doing it. How much longer Casey will keep the band on the road performing at this point is anyone’s guess, so we advise checking them out if you haven’t very soon as you will not be disappointed.
