The Spinners capped off the weekend with two, standing room only, sold out shows at the Bears Den. We were able to catch the Saturday performance as the band left no stone unturned as they “worked their way” through all of the hits that made them a household name throughout their long career.

The band has been nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame for the fourth time recently. The accolades are a plenty with 7-Top 10 singles and 17- Top 40 hits including the chart topping smash “Then Came You” with Dionne Warwick. Considering how they were able to not only land on the R&B charts but score so well on the standard charts show how much they deserve to be in the hall. It’s a travesty seeing them getting passed over for acts who have done less and are less deserving.

These days the Spinners consist of Henry Fambrough, Jessie Peck, Marvin Taylor, Ronnie Moss and the newest member C.J. Jefferson. Fambrough was conspicuously absent which during band introductions was explained he was doing ok but just not able to be there. Fambrough of course is the last of the original members of the band and survived all incarnations to date. The band is led by musical director Keith Ferguson.

Jefferson has stepped right in and really seemed to have given the band a new life. These cats still pull off the material in fine style and deliver an amazing show that highlights the band’s long and glorious career. The band is rounded out by guitarist Rocky H , bassist Ibriham Jones and drummer David Brandon.

The songs that stood out “I’ll Be Around”, “Working My Way Back To You” and “Love Don’t Love Nobody”. A great night of hits from a band who has stood the test of time. Hopefully they will get their just due and get selected for the hall.
