The Dire Straits Legacy played the finale of the Rockin’ The Downs concert series for 2022. “See you in 2023” emcee Jim McGee stated bringing this years series to a close. It was a fairly decent year for the series as they set an attendance record for 38 Special and brought in some decent talent. Hopefully next season will bring us some more great times with great artists.
The Dire Straits Legacy is a unique band. Most of the lineup has at one time played with Dire Straits including keyboardist Allen Clark, guitarist Phil Palmer, saxophonist, Mel Collins and keyboardist Guy Fletcher. Also joining the band were drummer Cristiano Micalizzi and bassist Trevor Horn. Yes, the same Trevor Horn who sang on the 1980 Yes album Drama and is a famous record producer. Marco Caviglia handled guitar and lead vocals.
The band did a commendable job on the catalog and served justice to the versions they played. Highlights included “Walk Of Life”, “Romeo and Juliet” and “Sultans of Swing”. The inclusion of Horn singing a rendition of the Yes song “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” was an added treat although “Video Killed The Radio Star” which Horn sang on as part of the Buggles would have fit in snuggly next to “Money For Nothing”. I do want my old school style MTV, those were the days.
