Comedy legend Jay Leno brought his shtick to the sold out Seneca Niagara Events Center Saturday evening. Leno had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands for much of his near eighty minute standup routine. The show also marked the first time he performed at the venue. Earlier this year the former Tonight Show host ended his run on late night television with his final show on February 6.
The sixty-three year old Leno immediately took to the stage following Joyryde, a local band who warmed up the crowd with a diverse four song selection that included a lovely rendition of Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.”
Leno’s act touched on several subjects many of which seemed to pop up regularly over his tenure on The Tonight Show, ones he always seems to enjoy using. Obamacare, age, sex, drugs were among just a few of the topics that Leno dabbled in Saturday night.
Leno asked several members of the audience what their occupation was and always left them with a quick quip and a laugh before moving on to the next person.
Yes, Leno used Buffalo in what was surprisingly only one joke which was about owning a pool shop in the area. The timing of telling the joke was perfect as it received one of the loudest chuckles of the evening.
There really wasn’t anything out of the ordinary regarding Leno’s performance. If you ever watched the Tonight Show you can get the idea of how solid Leno’s act was. Instead of guests and skits it was just all Leno. Leno’s show came to a close almost as fast as he first appeared as he bid the crowd a good night. The show was a real treat for any fan of Leno and judging by the ovation he received, I’m sure he won over many new ones as well.
