Hearing that Eddie Money was not performing with his full band but instead a scaled down acoustic version, I didn’t know what to expect. Just one day after his 64th birthday, Eddie shows us he still has what it takes to put on a great show, by singing, playing harmonica and the sax throughout the night.

Opening with a song from his No Control album, “My Friends, My Friends” the crowd cheered and sang along. Money also treated his fans to a little harmonica action on “No Control” as well as some nice saxophone work on “Trinidad” and “I Wanna Go Back.” In between some of the songs he thanked his audience for supporting his music and even found time to slip in a joke or two. Eddie also talked about a song he wrote called “One More Soldier Coming Home”. Available only from his website, proceeds from its sales go to benefit The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The song brought everyone to their feet, with tears in their eyes who along with Money, saluted those that serve their country.

Eddie also sang some of his other classic songs. “Gimmie Some Water”, “Maureen” and “Take Me Home Tonight” just to name a few. As the night rolled on, listening to hit after hit I realized this show rivaled any big production show I have ever seen but in a much different way. It wasn’t about crazy onstage antics or a million dollar light show that made this night great. It was all about Eddie being Eddie, his music proving you don’t need a big production to keep your fan base, all you need are great songs, a few talented musicians and a venue like the Bears Den with its awesome sound and up close seating to make for a great show.
