Jack Blades has worn many hats in the wonderful world of music. From his day job in Night Ranger to his other successful endeavors such as Supergroup Damn Yankees along with cohorts Tommy Shaw, Ted Nugent and Michael Cartellone, he is very well respected. Saturday evening at The Bear’s Den inside Seneca Niagara Casino & Resort, Canadian singer-songwriter Dan Hill played a rare area show. Hill, best known for his pair of top ten smashes in “Sometimes When We Touch” and “Can’t We Try” played a story tellers type of show where he told about each song he performed. Something not too many artists do. It was perhaps the most intimate show I’ve seen in this type of setting. Continue reading

Todd Rundgren’s forthcoming release White Knight is unique for many reasons. It breaks a streak of one word titles for his solo albums of original material dating back to Liars and it is the first truly collaborative effort since Second Wind.

White Knight is filled with guest appearances, but as one would expect from Rundgren it is hardly in the same vein as a traditional duets album. Rundgren, who has long been able to create music by himself, picks up where he left off on Global many of the tracks, but at times it also has the feel of Todd’s solo work dating back to Hermit of Mink Hollow. Friday evening, Geoff Tate returned to the area as a solo act. The show billed as, 35 years of Ryche in an acoustic setting made for quite an enjoyable evening for many longtime fans. The Rapids Theatre played host to the memorable affair as it was decked out with several tables on the main floor and rows of chairs in the side sections. Generally, the shows here are so packed you can’t even move around. Yes, this was a welcome change of pace to be able to witness a show and simply relax and enjoy. Continue reading
