It was the perfect night of celebration as Wednesday 13 made a rare appearance in Buffalo and on a Wednesday night no less. The 400 capacity venue was the place to be as the Duke of Spook brought his “There’s No Such Things As Monsters” North American Tour to town. Wednesday 13 made sure to deliver a solid set featuring not only some of his best songs but of course treated the crowd with some Murderdolls as well.
This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the debut Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying and the Dead. The band played a heavy portion to commemorate the occasion. They also sprinkled in two new songs that have been available recently online from the new album. Due out on April 25th, Mid Death Crisis already promises to be a powerful album judging by “When The Devil Commands” and “In Misery”, both performed with authority and fit nicely into the band’s current set.
The band featured the guitar tandem of Ashes and Jack Tankersley, bassist Troy Doebbler and drummer Jason West. Songs that seemed to get the crowd into a frenzy included Wednesday 13 classics “From Here to the Hearse” and “Bad Things”. The band also mixed in some Frankenstein Dark Queens from Planet 13 songs including “Rambo” and the show closer “I Love to Say F*ck” for good measure.
The band kicked the encore off with a pair of killer cuts from The Murderdolls. “Slit My Wrist” and “Dead In Hollywood” brought the house down. The show was everything one would expect with a Wednesday 13 show even considering the stage on what the band were dealt to perform on. The band did not let it bother them and gave the show a more intimate feel making you feel the music in your face. At one point during the show, Wednesday 13 had the crowd make some noise for Joey Jordison his partner in The Murderdolls. Sadly Jordison passed away in 2021 and it was great to see him still being honored.
With a new album on the horizon and a solid touring lineup in tow, Wednesday 13 shows no signs of slowing down. Fans walked out at the end of the show knowing they experienced a special one as it is not everyday Buffalo gets a show like this. More times than not we generally get skipped over shows like this so it was something to cherish. This was one of those shows that you will remember for years to come. At least til next time.
