Daryl Hall mentioned he could not remember the last time he was in Erie, PA. He asked longtime band member Charles DeChant who has been with Hall for close to fifty years and he couldn’t remember as well. After some research it appears Hall and DeChant were last in town in 2000 when they appeared at the same Warner Theater. Since then the Theater has gone over some upgrades and restoration projects and looks simply magnificent. That is the same word I would use to describe Tuesday evening’s performance.

It was a decent crowd for a mid-week show as Hall and his special guest, The Squeeze’s Glenn Tilbrook dazzled the crowd with several gems. Both artists shared the band known as the Daryl’s House Band. It was Tilbrook who went on first as he delivered a solid set of tunes featuring a few Squeeze classics as well as a few solo ones of his own. “Black Coffee In Bed” and “Tempted” received the biggest applause.

Hall was up next and got things rolling with “The Whole World’s Better” from his latest release D which was released in June of 2024. His top-5 smash “Dreamtime”, his highest charting solo single was next. Hall not to be complacent added two number ones in “Kiss On My List” and “Private Eyes” but he performed them in a different manner than usual slowing down the tempo a smidge and singing the chorus a tad slower giving them a unique spin. He quickly followed up with “Rich Girl”.

For the encore as most recent Daryl Hall shows with a special guest, this one no exception, brought Tilbrook back out to perform three songs with Hall. Beginning with the smash “One On One”, they also mixed in what Hall called his favorite Squeeze song “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell) before ending with the Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes cover “Bad Luck”. To close out the show Hall chose “You Make My Dreams” to put a cap on the evening.

Hall was clearly having fun all night as he played a good mix of his hits, a few solo selections as well as four new tracks from his latest release D. D features many of the songs co-written with The Eurythmics Dave Stewart who Hall has worked with in the past. At this point if you would like to see the man who was involved with six number one hits as well as countless top-40 hits this will be the only way you can. Let’s do this again soon Mr. Hall, it was a blast.
