The American Jazz Rock Ensemble Blood, Sweat & Tears played the Bear’s Den Saturday evening. It leaned on to the side of one of the best attended Bear’s Den shows that I’ve seen in a long time. Not bad considering they also played the night before. The band was initially formed ways back in 1967 in New York City. Their sound has merged rock, pop and R&B/soul music with big band jazz and were one of the first to do so. Their unique sound catapulted their second album to the top of the U.S. charts. Oddly enough they have the distinction of having three consecutive singles hitting #2 failing to reach the number one spot.
The band has gone through numerous personnel changes throughout their existence. I would have to say they may own the record when it comes to bands and how many members they’ve had. These days the band consists of vocalist Keith Paluso, drummer Dylan Elise, guitarist Nir Felder, bassist Ric Fierabracci and longest serving member keyboardist Glenn McClelland. McClelland has been with the band since 1987. The horn section includes music director Brad Mason.
While there are no original members in the band, these guys still deliver a solid performance that takes one back to the time where this band dominated the charts. You can always expect to hear such gems as “You’ve Made Me So Very Happy” as well as “Spinning Wheel” which the band ended with and nailed ending on a high note.
