The Offspring, the punk rock band who help push the genre to the mainstream back in the 90’s played the OLG Stage at Fallsview Wednesday night. The short but dynamic, highly spirited 75-minute set was all that was needed to show everyone how significant this band still is. Led by vocalist Dexter Holland and guitarist Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman, they remain the sole holdovers from the band’s glory days.

They came fast right out of the gate with mega-hit “Come Out And Play” to start the affair with a spirited manner. Holland whipped the crowd into a frenzy with those familiar lyrics “You Gotta Keep ‘Em Separated”. The music was on point and the band was full of energy all night. Joining Hollad and Noodles were bassist Todd Morse, multi-instrumentalist Jonah Nimoy and drummer Brandon Pertzborn.

The band is set to release their eleventh album Supercharged on October 11th. They played one song “Make It All Right” which will appear on the album, went over well with the crowd.

Of course no Offspring show is complete without the slew of songs they are known for such as “Gotta Get Away”, “Why Don’t You Get A Job?” and the classic “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) which the latter had several female fans going berserk on the standing room only floor. To me the night ended perfectly with the bands guilty pleasure song “Self Esteem”. While it has been played many times over the years it truly is one song that never gets old for me.

Often cited for bringing rock, punk and pop together, The Offspring truly are a band who helped bring this type of genre to the forefront when their album Smash broke out huge selling some six million copies in the U.S. alone to date. The album has become the biggest selling independent album of all time and deservedly so. The band produced in concert exactly as I had pictured they would and then some.
