The Counting Crows finally returned to town making their first Buffalo area appearance in nearly seven years Tuesday evening. The place to be was Buffalo’s newest outdoor venue, Terminal B at the Outer Harbor. The Counting Crows are currently on the road with Santana and were able to mix in a few headline shows on off dates with this being one of them. For those who’d like to catch Santana and The Crows together they make a stop in Syracuse later this month (July 24).

The band has been altering their sets and tonight opened with the mega “Round Here”. “Hard Candy” and the other mega song “Mr. Jones” completed the opening trifecta. Not too often do you see a band play their two biggest songs so early on. The highlights did not stop there however as the band performed “Anna Begins” and “Butterfly In Reverse” both which had been played only a handful of times so far this year.

The acoustic segment featured a pair of tunes played for the first time in 2024 with “Washington Square” and “Angels of the Silences”. The latter part of the set featured the best sounding songs of the night in “Time and Time Again” and “A Long December”. Absolutely stellar.

While the band has sold a ton of albums throughout their distinguished career, it is their live show that receives much praise from the critics. The current version of the band has been together since 2005. The trio of Adam Duritz (vocals), David Bryson (guitars) and Charlie Gillingham (keyboards, accordion) have been in the band since day one. Joining them were Dan Vickery (guitar), David Immergluck (guitars, mandolin), Jim Bogios (drums) and Millard Powers (bass). These guys are the reason why their live show is their bread and butter. Many members can play multi-instruments so they can play anything they desire at any given time.

We now finally have a permanent outdoor music venue that can accommodate 5,000 comfortably. The raised lawn section behind the soundboard gives a great look of the stage something even the Darien Lake Amphitheater cannot do. With the venue just opening this summer there is more they plan to do. This is just the beginning. Let’s hope we get these guys back here much sooner next time as seven years is much too long of a wait.
