Taylor Dayne made a triumphant return to the Avalon Theatre inside the magnificent Fallsview Casino Resort this past Friday evening. It marked her first appearance at the venue in eight years. The show marked just the second date of her “Love Me 2024” Tour. Known for her strong voice and amazing vocal performances in the live setting, Dayne did not disappoint.
Kicking things off with “Prove Your Love”, a top-10 smash from her debut helped to establish the tone for the evening. In a set full of hits the only hard part was deciding where to put them. Her top-5 mega hit “With Every Beat Of My Heart” closely followed. Not many can say that the first seven singles they released all reached the top-10 on the Billboard Hot 100. She is in very small company there.
The middle portion of the set was where she kind of slowed things down and did an amazing cover of the Prince-penned song “Nothing Compares To U” made famous by Sinead O’Connor. The Barry White classic “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe” bridged the gap to the majestic songs that closed out the evening . You knew what songs Dayne would end with but you probably thought she would finish with the one with the faster pace in “Tell It To My Heart”. Instead the slower of the two and the only song to top the Billboard 100 “Love Will Lead You Back” brought things to a close.
It was a solid night of music that also featured a backing band that was incredible. Madonna needs to take notes. Most fans would like a band please. Dayne knows what works as she has been around the block many times whether it be with her music, acting, songwriting or as an author. She has certainly done it all. The good news is she is showing no signs of slowing down now. Be sure to catch her show if it comes anywhere remotely near you. You’ll certainly thank me.
