The Seneca Niagara Event Center featured a true legend Friday evening when Dionne Warwick graced the stage. Warwick at 79 years old still sounded fantastic as she made her way through an 80-minute set. Joining her were drummer David Elliot, bassist Keith Nelson, keyboardist Todd Hunter and music director Rob Schrock. Later in the set Warwick revealed that Elliot was her eldest son.
Warwick focused much of the early set on her songs from the 1960s part of her catalog. Many of those songs such as “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and “I’ll Never Fall In Love Again” were written by famous composer Burt Bacharach. “Alfie” was on of the highlights from the night.
Warwick brought the house down on “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” which peaked at number 5 on the charts in 1979. It brought out the first standing ovation of the night.
Warwick made it a true family affair when she brought out her Granddaughter Cheyenne Elliott, David’s daughter to help close out the evening on songs such as “Love Will Find a Way” and “Let There Be Love”.
I find it amazing how many performers continue to put on shows when you would think they would be enjoying retirement on some beach relaxing away from the everyday grind. It is a testament to how much Warwick enjoys performing as well as wanting to give her fans the opportunity to continue see her do so. The best thing was the fact she still sounded good in doing so making it a win-win for everyone.
