The Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino welcomed Diana Ross back for yet another fantastic performance Friday evening. The queen of diva’s dazzled the filled to capacity crowd with her still powerful vocals along with her sparkly outfits as she danced from one end of the stage to the other. It is hard to believe she still has the stamina she does at 73 years old. Her show clocked in at 75-minutes and featured many of her solo hits mixed in with her Supremes’ best along with four or five outfit changes.
A huge curtain hung concealing the entire stage, alas this was no Kiss concert. As it lowered Ross began to get things started appropriately enough with “I’m Coming Out”. So out she came as the fans stood to see the living legend. Ross is no stranger to the Seneca Niagara Events center having performed a few times over the years including a visit in early 2016.
A few songs later she began to whip out the hits from the Supremes. “Baby Love”, “Stop In The Name Of Love” and “You Can’t Hurry Love” all performed to perfection. As old as some of these songs are they still sound great in a live setting. No matter how many times you may have heard them, they never get old.
Once the Supremes hits were done she eased into her solo hits. Highlights included the number one smashes “Touch Me In The Morning” and “Theme From Mahogany” with the latter leading into “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. “Upside Down”, “Ease On Down The Road” and “Love Hangover” the hits seemed to never stop coming. In fact there were still a great deal more she could have played but chose not to.
An extended version of “I Will Survive” the Gloria Gaynor smash, closed out the show. With little or no fanfare Ross waved to the crowd, left the stage and sailed off into the sunset. Strange that an icon such as Ross chose not to bask in the limelight with her fans at the show’s conclusion. Her band was left on stage to finish off the song and the house lights came on immediately after.
Ross has seen and done it all in a career that spans six decades. From successful songs, albums and tours Ross knows a thing or two about the music business. She’s experienced all the highs and lows one can and it doesn’t appear judging by her performance and the smile she had on her face throughout the show that she’s ready to retire anytime soon.
