If you would have told me back in 1985 that I would be writing a review of a Culture Club concert at some point in my life, I would have told you that you were crazy. Stranger things have happened but after taking in the Culture Club show inside the Seneca Niagara Event Center Saturday night, I can honestly say this band brought their “A” game. They kept everyone entertained mostly led by frontman Boy George with his wit and charm. George who managed to change his wardrobe a few times and kept the near sellout crowd on their feet for the first few songs before settling in for an arousing 100-minute set.
This show marked the band’s first visit to the area since their 1984 show at The Aud in Buffalo. The original lineup featuring George on vocals, Jon Moss on drums, Roy Hay on guitar and keys and Mikey Craig on bass guitar was also enhanced by a horn trio and three background singers to help bolster things.
The band mixed in all the hits like “Karma Chameleon”, “Time (Clock Of The Heart), and “Miss Me Blind”. They also managed to work in newer tracks such as “Human Zoo”, “Different Man” and “Runaway Train” all believed to be on the band’s upcoming release whenever it comes out. It’s been delayed a few times but fans are hopeful it will be out very soon.
With the current crop of shows the band has played recently, they are winning over new fans who perhaps dismissed them back in the 80’s, or who are just now discovering the band and have been won over by their recent concerts. Either way their performance Saturday night was impeccable. Don’t wait so long to come back next time guys.
