Shawn Colvin performed at Rockwell Hall Sunday evening as part of their Great Performers Series. Colvin sans any backing band, who has been touring with just herself and an acoustic guitar, wove her way through a captivating set that also included some cuts from her latest release All Fall Down. The three-time Grammy award winner’s set featured a good retrospective of her career as well as displayed her songwriting allure.

Colvin has come a long way even from her 1996 Grammy winning album of the year A Few Small Repairs. She has taken quite some time in between her releases as she has only unleashed four albums in the past sixteen years. Most of that is due in part to her raising her fourteen year old daughter.

Colvin kicked off the evening with her rendition of “Crazy”, the cover from Gnarls Barkley. The three song barrage featuring the classic “Polaroids”, “Shotgun Down The Avalanche”, a tune from her 1989 debut and “Seven Times The Charm” a standout track from her latest, all seemed to feature how vibrant of a songwriter she is.

It wasn’t until later in the main set that her biggest hit “Sunny Came Home” was performed. Colvin remarked that this is about as close to happy as her songs get as she commented on how most of her songs are sad.

As she closed out her show with “Diamond In The Rough”, also the name of her memoir book, she demonstrated that she still has her passion for music as it was displayed in her songwriting and her intimate performance just like this past Sunday night in Buffalo.
