It had been some six years since Cinderella last played a show in the Western New York region. Sunday evening that changed as the band came and played at Buffalo’s newest concert venue Braun’s Concert Cove out in Akron, NY. The cool evening made for an enjoyable show for the fans in the fine outdoor setting at Braun’s. From musicians to photographers to a full entourage of media almost everyone who is anyone in music in Buffalo was at this show.

Led by vocalist, guitarist Tom Keifer the band set to reacquaint the crowd with songs from their first three albums which all went platinum. The band started off by going “Once Around The Ride” before surprisingly launching right into one of their biggest tunes “Shake Me”. Drummer Fred Coury came up to the front of the stage during “Heartbreak Station” to play some tambourine.  Bassist Eric Brittingham and guitarist Jeff LaBar rounded out the lineup as Cinderella is one of few 80s bands that can still boast their original lineup. Touring on keyboards this year is former Winger member Paul Taylor.

A piano was rolled out as Keifer banged out the first notes of Cinderella’s highest charting single “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)”. The song was the perfect segue as it bled directly into “Nobody’s Fool”, the song that has become the band’s best known. This stop on the tour is perhaps one of the smallest venues Cinderella has played so far this summer. This did not affect the crowd in the least as they sang along and were quite loud at times.

The band featured their bluesier side during the encore as they played “Long Cold Winter”, a song that disappeared from the bands repertoire over the years and only recently has been revived. Closing out with the Stones-like classic “Shelter Me” the band thanked the crowd for all their support over the years and bid them good night.

Despite not having an album of new material out since 1994, the band still continues to draw well in the live setting. Let’s hope the legalities of the band releasing new music get resolved soon as you just know Tom Keifer has a few golden nuggets left in him.
