It has been quite a number of years that Brian Setzer last played a non-holiday show in the area. The scenic Artpark outdoor stage provided a glorious setting for what was dubbed as the Rockabilly Riot tour. Setzer mixed in Classic Stray Cats cuts as well as solo material and a few covers thrown in for good measure. Several little dance sections sprouted up throughout the venue at various times during Setzer’s 90-minute set. Continue reading

There’s no denying Hank Williams Jr’s place in country music history. As the son of arguably the most influential artist in the history of the genre, he had quite a legacy to follow. By blazing his own trail, he became a legend in his own right. So I was looking forward to seeing him in concert for the first time. I had also never seen an outdoor show at Seneca Allegany Casino. Thursday evening in Buffalo was a music lover’s dream. With shows by national acts at various venues around town it was the return of Rockin’ at the Knox and their stellar lineup that led the way. During the summer of 1982 you could not turn the radio on without hearing Journey or Asia blasting through your boombox speakers. Journey’s Escape was still riding high on the charts with six singles constantly receiving airplay. Asia, the recently formed supergroup had just released their debut album featuring gems “Heat Of The Moment” and “Only Time Will Tell.” Wednesday evening both bands put on performances that took one back to those times. Tears For Fears took a break for one night from their current tour with Hall & Oates to finally play the outdoor stage at Artpark. The band played Pittsburgh last night leaving tonight as the best available date for them to play. Don Henley and his solo band returned to Toronto at the Budweiser Stage (formerly Molson Amphitheatre) Tuesday night to a small but boisterous crowd. Henley still touring in support of his latest album Cass County, played a 125-minute set that left everyone wanting more. Unlike his previous visit to The Sony Centre in 2015, Henley mixed in a fair amount of Eagles songs much to the delight of his fans. Continue reading
