The 2018 Rockin’ at the Downs concert series kicked off this past Friday with the money man, Eddie Money. Despite signs of rain it did not deter many fans from coming. A brief shower started just before Money took the stage but stopped quickly for a while before making a nuisance about halfway through. Heavier rain stayed with us until the show ended making it not as enjoyable for many.
Money took to the stage with “Baby Hold On” the song that started it all for him back in 1977. Released as a single in 78′ it climbed all the way to #11 helping to propel his debut to double platinum status. It remains his biggest selling album to date.
Money was in a very talkative mood all night and mentioned the western NY area several times throughout his all-too brief set which just eclipsed over an hour. His band played their parts well as there were no complaints with the sound.
“Endless Nights” was the true gem of the night as it doesn’t always make the set list every night. Other songs of note were “I Wanna Go Back” and “Trinidad” both of which sounded great. One song I would have to say I was disappointed in was “Take Me Home Tonight”. It was his highest charting single but he talked to the crowd while half-singing it making it memorable for all the wrong reasons.
As Money poured out the hits the rain became steadier as well. The diehards didn’t seem to mind as quite a few people were seen dancing and having a grand old time after all isn’t that what it’s all about?
