Peter Noone brought his Herman’s Hermits back to the Fallsview Casino over the weekend for a pair of shows. Herman’s Hermits along with The Beatles, the Kinks, the Stones and the Animals were part of the original British Invasion of the 60s. The band amassed 18 top-40 hits throughout the decade, including chart toppers “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter” and “I’m Henery The Eighth, I Am”.

Noone who will turn 70 next week, still has a youthful look and an innocence about him even after all these years. One has to remember Noone was only sixteen years old when the band landed their first hit “I’m Into Something Good” on the charts. Noone has done many things throughout his career including acting and delighting audiences for many, many years.

Noone is a pro at putting on a show and he involves his audience. Between telling one-liners, stories about the songs or even poking fun at himself he manages to keep the audience’s attention and makes for a very enjoyable show.

Some of the highlights from Friday’s show were “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat”, “The End of the World” and “There’s A Kind Of A Hush”. All three were delivered to perfection. I’d also be negligent if I forgot to mention “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” which Noone allowed a woman to sing part of the chorus. The funny thing was she clearly did not know all the words and made her own up as she went along which proved to be one of the running gags for the rest of the show. All in good fun.

I last saw Noone in 2007 and although we didn’t know it at the time, it turned out to be the final concert my mother would see. She had seen Noone a few times over the years and always enjoyed his performances. Noone did not disappoint and she was able to see a “dandy” for her last one. When it comes to putting on a performance he never disappoints. One thing you can be assured of when leaving the venue after a Peter Noone show is the satisfied feeling you’ll get after witnessing one of the most gifted performers in the history of music.
