With shouts of Coheed! Coheed! roaring through the Town Ballroom Wednesday evening, the near capacity crowd welcomed Coheed And Cambria back to town. Vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez led guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Zach Cooper and returning drummer Josh Eppard through a riveting set that showcased the band at its best. Fresh from a west coast tour supporting metal legends Iron Maiden, the band seemed fresh and ready to support their upcoming album scheduled to be released on October 9.

The ninety minute set opened up with “No World For Tomorrow”, from Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow, the band had the crowd at their mercy. As Claudio pulled out the acoustic guitar for an astounding version of “Mother Superior”, you knew that things were only starting to heat up. Fan favorite “Blood Red Summer” was where the show really took off as the crowd fed off the energy put forth by the band.

For an encore the band offered up a taste of their upcoming album The Afterman: Ascension with a track entitled “Key Entity Extraction l: Domino the Destitute”. The band closed out their set with a pair of cuts from their 2005 release Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: in the ever popular “Welcome Home” and
“The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut”.

It is very hard to classify Coheed And Cambria to a specific genre when it comes to their music. They display a wide range from progressive rock reminiscent of Dream Theater, but at the same time show an alternative side mixed in with heavy metal and even some punk. This is perhaps why they found their niche with their fan-base. That as well as their outstanding musicianship.

Opening the show was 3, a progressive rock band from Woodstock, NY. The band featured singer Joey Eppard who is also the brother of Coheed drummer Josh Eppard. The band received a very warm reception from the Buffalo crowd during their all too brief thirty-five minute set.
